  Hiking

   
Croatan National Forest, which covers 155,000 acres, including 40 miles of
    streams and 4,300 acres of lakes.  The forest areas are ideal for hiking,
    picnicking, camping, swimming, boating, fishing and hunting.  Many animal,

    bird, and plant species seen in the Croatan National Forest are unique to the
    area. 

 

Local Parks
Union Point Park Complex is a very scenic five acre site at the point of the Neuse and Trent Rivers.  The walkway under the Trent River bridge joins Union Point Park and Bicentennial Park.  It contains two boat launching ramps, stage area, restroom facilities, picnic tables, fishing pier, grills, a small playground, gazebo and limited parking.
Glenburnie Park is a 51 acre park located on the Neuse River north of the city.
Features include a public boat ramp with paved parking, one short and one long pier, four picnic shelters, restroom facilities, frisbee golf course and a playground.

Lawson Creek Park is a 140 acre park on the Trent River.  The park has 2 boat landings, restroom facilities, picnic shelter, two soccer fields, two fishing piers, a handicap walkway, one handicap fishing pier and a fitness and exercise trail. 

Seth West Parrott Park is 25 acres and adjoins West New Bern Recreation Center.  The surrounding grounds have 2 lighted tennis courts, 2 lighted baseball fields, 2 lighted little league fields, three field houses with restrooms, one outdoor lighted basketball court, ample parking and a picnic shelter.

D.E. Henderson Park is 30 acres and adjoins Stanley White Recreation Center.  This park consists of 2 shelters with grills and four picnic tables.  The surrounding grounds have 2 lighted regulation size basketball courts, 2 baseball fields, a soccer field, modular playground, outdoor restroom facilities, walking trail, Parcourse Joint-use fitcenter and ample parking.

There are many other smaller parks located throughout New Bern.
