The Craven County school system is a consolidated, county-wide system
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the NC
Department of Public Instruction.
There are two
preschool/kindergarten schools, four preschool/ kindergarten handicapped
schools, fourteen public elementary schools, five public middle schools,
three public high schools, six secondary/elementary parochial schools, one
community college (with two associate university programs), one technical
school and four schools with special academic education.

There are several private schools which administer classes for PreK to 12
grades. 2002 School enrollment was 1201.
HIGHER EDUCATION
Craven Community College is a public two year college with an open door
admissions policy. Services provided include basic education
programs, college transfer program, technical degrees, one year vocational
programs, continuing education and extension programs in occupational and
vocational courses of study. CCC also offers a degree in
aeronautical technology at its Havelock campus.
The New Bern campus of Mount Olive College offers accelerated degree
completion programs for adults who have completed about two years of
college. Courses are offered in Management and Organizational
Development, Criminal Justice Administration, Modular Religion Major,
Heritage Program and General Education Requirements.
